For the last 20 years, Christ Community has been a church committed to Scripture and to each other. Through all the ebbs and flows of these years, God has faithfully sustained and strengthened us as a church body. Over the last five years in particular, God has multiplied our numbers, stabilized our finances, and given us a vision for the long term future of the church.

God has called us to be ROOTED in Christ and ROOTED in this community for the next 50+ years. Practically, this means maintaining our commitment to Scripture and to each other while expanding our impact in the downtown of Johnson City and the Tri-Cities at large. Over the next three years, we aim to expand and improve our facilities to create larger and more functional ministry spaces for adults, teens, and young children. We estimate the construction and renovation work will cost between $6M and $8M, and we need your help.

Daily Prayer & Once-a-Week At Home/Family Worship Guides

Our vision is to be rooted for the next 50+ years as a Word-centered, maturing, faithful, and intergenerational congregation worshiping in downtown Johnson City, out of which regionally impactful Gospel-preaching churches are planted.

In 2006, God planted Christ Community Church. In 2008, he repurposed the brick and mortar of 400 Ashe Street to host a downtown, intergenerational, Christ-preaching, relationship-emphasizing, Scripture-loving local church.

He rooted us HERE, that we might proclaim Christ (Colossians 1.28) and seek the good of the city around us (Jeremiah 29.7). In 2016, ten years ago, God graciously called the Powell family to Christ Community, revealing the Tri-Cities as our assigned “sphere of influence” (2 Corinthians 10.13). It is not a surprise that, in his providence, Christ Community has been a fit for our gifts, quirks, desires, needs… and love of the mountains! God rooted us here for our flourishing, alongside you (Psalm 1.3).

Up in my office, you will find an original watercolor painting by my favorite artist. Aspen Trees. These are the trees of my childhood in the mountains of Colorado. Bright yellow fall leaves, white bark.

Aspen trees only come in groves. You will never find just one Aspen tree. Rather, you will find thousands of them, connected underground with a shared root system and the same genetic code. Aspen trees are a glorious metaphor for the Church. We are rooted together in Christ and together God is nourishing us, maturing us, and sprouting new trees among us.

This is who we are. Rooted in Christ. Rooted in our Community. In this strategic moment of our shared redemptive history, let me invite you… BE ROOTED, WITH US, IN CHRIST for your flourishing, for those among us, and for those God will call to us in the next 50+ years.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Jim

Areas of Enhancement

1) Lord's Day Worship

Our Sunday morning service attendance has more than doubled over the last five years—Praise God!—and we are over-capacity in our current space. The construction of a new sanctuary will more than double seating in each service (from 190 to more than 400), allowing us to welcome visitors and regular attendees without overflow rooms.

2) Youth and Children's Ministry

Stewarding the hearts of our Covenant Children includes caring for their physical bodies in safe, age-appropriate spaces. With an average of 90 kids attending children’s programs each Sunday morning, we are reaching the limits of what we can safely and effectively offer. The renovation of our current building will provide more space with greater functionality for nursery, Little Sprouts, Elementary classes, and youth classes.

3) Hospitality

Whether we are serving each other, the wider body of believers, or the Johnson City community, Christ Community loves to be hospitable. And while our building has served us well, it was never designed to meet a church’s needs. Updates to our lobby, sanctuary layout (with movable chairs), children’s wing, as well as added adult classrooms, will provide more functional, inviting, and versatile spaces for ministry of all kinds.

Rooted in Christ.

Rooted in our Community.

Primary Goal: 100% Participation

As a part of this church body, we are asking you to invest in our ROOTED campaign for the growth and maturing of Christ Community Church. It is our vision that, for the next 50+ years, Christ Community Church will be a Word-centered, maturing, faithful, and intergenerational congregation worshiping in downtown Johnson City, out of which regionally impactful Gospel-preaching churches are planted.

Secondary Goal: $6M-$8M

This $6M-$8M project is fully dependent on congregational gifts above regular tithes and offerings. Over the next three years, we are asking you to commit your prayers, financial gifts, and relational investment so that Christ Community may be rooted in Johnson City for generations to come.
