Jim Powell
Teaching Pastor
Brief info
Jim Powell began serving as pastor of Christ Community Church in January 2017, returning to East Tennessee where he met his wife at Carson Newman College. Prior to coming to Christ Community, Jim pastored Harmony PCA in Kingsport (2003-2006), planted West Valley PCA in Emmaus PA (2006-2013), and at Blythewood PCA in South Carolina (2013-16) while serving as Executive Director of Home Works of America (2013-2018).
Jim remains intentionally bi-vocational, helping lead Appalachia Service Project as a Senior Development Officer. Jim received his BA in History and Political Science from Carson-Newman, after which he completed an MDiv at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. In addition to his regular role at CCC and ASP, Jim serves as an occasional instructor for the Charles Simeon Trust, helping lead Workshops on Biblical Exposition domestically and internationally. Jim is blessed to be husband to Kori and father to Lina, Meggie, Nate, Oria, Pete and Quade… and finds peace in running from the noise on the streets and trails of Johnson City.
